Last year, I made note of a court order suspending sales of certain acai berry supplement products. The defendants were making over-the-top, unproven weight loss and “detox” claims, offering phony “free trials,” and – of course – adding unauthorized charges to customers’ credit cards.

Funny, I thought that acai was supposed to magically help people lose weight?! If this were true, you’d think the Brazilians – who slurp up the stuff fresh - would be the leanest people in the world. But apparently not… according to Reuters: Nearly half of adult Brazilians are overweight and about 15 percent are obese, Brazil’s IBGE social
